Rosie`s Tamale House in Austin

I had the 6 tamales and chile. Pretty much what I expected. Back in time tex mex pork tamales smothered in brown sauce/chile. Not fancy, not surprisingly good, just reliable. My friend got taquitos. They were overcooked and the chicken was dry. The salsa is smooth, garlicky heat! Go here for the 1960's tex-mex experience. The music is great. Geoge Jones and old country standards, they know who their clientelle are. I swear I was looking for cigarette smoke! The staff were nice and the man at the counter jolly and talkative. Fun.

Really enjoyed a Monday dinner here with friends and their extended family. There must have been 30 of us and they were very accommodating. Its byob. The server was incredible and and was right on top of the orders keeping the chips and drinks full. She had a great attitude for having to deal with such a huge party. The food is always delicious traditional TexMex. I only wish I could get by here more often but it's a 30 minute drive for me. Great place to take friends and drinks and sit back and visit.

Their beef fajitas can't be beat! Beef fajitas are only available on Saturdays & Tuesday's. Great food affordable prices & it is BYOB!

I tried a variety of the tacos and unfortunately they were all bad . No seasoning no flavor at all . The person and the register was not friendly at all . I do not recommend this place .

Extraordinary vibes and very affable service. The meals were crisp and enchanting. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to others. Reasonable prices and generous portions. Keep up the great work.

Forget about any upscale ambiance. You won't find it here. But, you will find the best, authentic Mexican food in Central Texas. No doubt about it.RMc

It's my second time. Someone in charge is in cost cutting mode. 2 pieces of bacon does not mean 1 piece cut in half!! Lemons to cover up the chlorine smell of the water were all dried out. Flavorless beans from a can....."salsa" that's just watery tomatoes......watered down coffee. Never again.

I've eaten there my whole life. Back in the 70's my parents used to come to Austin to go deer hunting at Riemers ranch off 71 behind the Horseshoe cafe! Me and Peter have been friends for forever and will continue to do so! Love ya ROSIE'S TAMALE HOUSE!

The mexican food here is to be avoided at all costs. It is bad . No one in my party of 10 liked any of their food at all . plus the staff is not so friendly.

This place has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. A picture of me as a baby is still on the wall. They feel like family!!

I have been going to Rosies since I moved to Lakeway/bee cave. Can not recommend a better authentic and family run restaurant. 100 % would come here if you looking for a good meal

The owner was a very nice man and I loved his family history. Im sure his moms tamales were the bomb 50 yrs ago, but chile, not today. He gave us a free praline that he made himself and it was delicious. However, I am a native Texan and when I see a hole in the wall restaurant sitting off the highway, named something like Rosies Tamales, I expect a homemade tamale and it was very disappointing that I didn't get that. I also ordered a combination plate which consisted of a crispy taco which came seperatly as a first course, a tamale unwrapped, a cheese enchilada which the cheese was shredded cheese and all covered in canned refried beans and spanish rice. (covered in unseasoned refried beans). While I understand the owner keeping the family business alive, I suggest he hire someone to resurface or learn and perfect himself the tamale and tex mex recipes. This will indeed honor his moms heritage. For this, I give them a 2 star.

Y'all know the drill. This place has been here forever way longer than I've lived here. The tamales are simple, and pretty much ready to go anytime. Classic Tex-Mex.

Stopped here for Breakfast with my family. This is not authentic Mexican. I wouldn't even call it good tex-mex. The coffee was cold and tasted horrible. The food had zero flavor and staff had poor customer service.

Food was good as always, and the service was excellent. Didn't have to wait long for our order to arrive. Definitely plan to return real soon..

I've been going here since I was a little kid. I love this place! My dad has been eating here since the 1970s and it just feels like home. Love the memories. Great food. BYOB/W

Good, simple breakfast tacos. Okay coffee. Quirky guy taking phone orders. Just call in your order and they remember you by the order. Eaten here about 20 time. Only 4 stars because the coffee is not very good. We usually just get tacos to go now.

Great local restaurant to grab Mexican food. You can either eat in or call ahead for take out. The prices are decent for the area. The portions are typical American size (large). Each table is served with tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa is medium spicy for those who may not enjoy spicy salsa. The staff were very friendly and helpful with dietary restrictions. Several gluten free and vegetarian options were available. Washrooms weren’t that clean or modern.

This place is amazing. Love their food. And the owner guy or maybe he is manager? Sweet staff besides like 2 people.

We got our Christmas Eve tamales from here and they had a great flavor to them. I thought there was just the right amount of spice for a tamale. They are not chocked full of meat so I typically eat 3 for a meal with sides.

)eaten at Rosie's for over 30 years..has standard Tex Mex.I always order the Willie's Plate..chulupa,beef enchilada,guacamole salad and beef crispy taco..put on their red or green salsa and it's a great filling meal..prices have increased through the years,but what hasn't...friendly attentive staff...Pete the owners son was there...rarely forgets his customers..view the photo wall for celebrities...

I’ve lived here for 5 years and have driven past this little hideaway many times. Finally remembered to check them out.Great food!! Breakfast tacos with real potatoes not those that come in a bag and cooked until hard like rocks. LolTamales... yum!So happy I finally remembered to try this place. Just delicious.And down home friendly, I appreciate that.

Absolutely not a single bad thing to say. This place is just completely amazing. I have grown up eating Rosie's and it NEVER gets old. Food is just so great. Comes out fresh and hot and it looks so appetizing. To finish such a great meal off, Pralines are sold at the counter when leaving. Be sure to buy multiple for everyone, you will regret it if you dont. Love em. I have yet to find another place that has Pralines anything like these. Me and my family had an amazing time at Rosie's and look forward to the next visit.

Best Tamales in Texas

This place is always the best! Fajitas on Saturday and Tuesday only but the best you can buy. The Willie's plate is the best combination plate ever at Mexican restaurant. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Still going strong after 40+ years! But BYOB if you need an adult beverage. Stop in and you will see it is the best!

Had dinner second time this month, the food is consistently good. Been eating her since the 80's. It's a family tradition, good food never goes out of style. Rosie's has been around so long that you forget about it, believe me its a hidden gem.

Great food at a family run restaurant with extensive history in the area! BEST tamales in Texas!!! A favorite for 4 generations of my family! Soon to be 5!

Not bad, but not great either. Beef crunchy taco was better than the tamale or enchilada. No real atmosphere - just old tables for four scattered around the room. We expected better from a place that has been around for years. Wish I could speak better of the place!

The migas plate was most excellent and loved the service and environment

Average Tex Mex food. Wish they wouldn't use iceberg lettuce and chop the onions and tomatoes for the chalupas. Staff was attentive and polite. Prices average. Considering how long they have been in that location, the place was very clean.

Good social distancing, great food and Sam (female) is very good at her job.

The first place my wife and I took our daughter as a newborn and were made to feel at home by the co-owner when we arrived for our first night out after our daughter was born. Awesome experience! We have been he many, many times since!
